Last night's show marked the end of a very long Wrecking Ball tour, which has been one of Bruce's best tours in my opinion. There was also something very special for the fans who were not able to attend the final Wrecking Ball show. The entire show was actually live streamed via YouTube, with about 13,000 fans watching. I guess this was Bruce's way of thanking his fans and sort of giving the U.S. fans a show to see in 2013! I was able to watch the whole show and I must say I was impressed from what I saw. This just goes to show that people can complain about a setlist on paper but don't actually know how the show went over. I saw some of those complainers yesterday on forums but I guess they weren't watching the same show I was. Bruce had an amazing energy throughout the entire night as he usually does. He seemed to always want to be down in the crowd and spend more time with the fans. The crowd was definitely a little rough on him at times, so I'm surprised he went down as often as he did. His security was for sure in for a workout.
The band kicked off with a very powerful "Sociedade Alternativa" which he debuted at his last Sao Paulo show. I love this version that Bruce does and it is quite clear that the Brazilian crowd was into just as much as I was. I think I may go as far to say that I want to see him play this live. I know, I have a better chance of winning the lottery then him playing this song in the states but it simply kicks ass. Right in from there they went into "Badlands" which I think was a great transition. Bruce did skip right to "Death to My Hometown" after Badlands, I guess after all it is a festival and he didn't have a ton of time on stage. A couple of songs later he announced that the band would play the entire "Born in the U.S.A." album from start to finish. I think this was a good move by Bruce, thousands and thousands of people love the album so what better way to close out the tour with an album that basically every Bruce fan knows? Plus, count the fact that the show was being live streamed and you hit a whole bunch of other fans who probably loved the call by Bruce. I thought the band hit it out of the park during the twelve songs on the album. It really looked like they were having a blast the entire time. From the album they went into "Shackled and Drawn" and "Waiting on a Sunny Day" which have been performed at the majority of the Wrecking Ball shows. I really hope that he keeps "Shackled and Drawn" around for the next tour, it is one of the highlights of the show. The encore did have one small surprise in "Twist and Shout" making a return. Perfect song to close out with the band at Rock in Rio in my opinion. Fireworks were going off above the stage as the band was closing out the song. The band left the stage and then Bruce came out to do an acoustic version of "This Hard Land." Bruce did say before the song "we will be back very, very soon. I promise!" He then vowed that "he won't let it happen again..." referring to how long it took the band to get back to South America. Check out the "This Hard Land" video below with the speech!
With that he closed the show with a "we'll be seein' ya!" Now the only questions remains, when will he announce his next album and will he add more 2014 dates. I would think that we will hear something from Bruce regarding a new album sometime in the next two to four months. I think that the Australian shows in early 2014 will be part of a new tour with a new album. Maybe even expect a few additional dates in other countries to be announced with the new album announcement. In closing, I just wanted to really thank all of you, the readers. You have made this such a fun tour and it's hard to believe that I started this website at the start of the tour and we are now just ending it. But really, thank you. It means a lot to see so many of you from around the world come to this website frequently. Be sure to keep it here for all the latest news and rumors because there are bound to be rumors flying around from now until the new album announcement! See you soon!
